(IS THIS) WAY OUT? A Poem By Unseen Tours’ David

I enjoy writing poems and lyrics because I can show people things that they might not have seen otherwise. A lot of my writings are hard hitting and thought provoking. I like to write if I have something to say that I don’t think has been said before or not much. I try to steer away from things that have been done to death. I am often inspired by my own life or that of people I know very well. I can also be inspired by what I read, like in the Bible say or a film that I have watched.

I wrote this poem in January 2015 after I had met Unseen Tours for the first time. The meeting was in the Royal Festival Hall and I met Faye, Viv, Henri, Chris, Rupa, Rachel and Tisha there. Afterwards, I went on Viv’s tour. The meeting itself was positive and sounded very interesting. I do not know the exact date of the meeting, but I was inspired by it.

The poem is about feeling in a slum or a ditch. You can’t get out of where you are and though you try, everything is a lost cause until…… The new way seems more positive, but you’re cautious about whether it is good or just appearing to look good? Been here before.

The poem now makes me think of the caution that I had back then. Of course, I am very glad that I decided to give it a try and the benefits that have come from it were only a dream at the time. I didn’t know what to expect, but I am very delighted by where I am now.

Of course I really enjoy working for Unseen Tours and all the things that I have learned and discovered along the way. Just like anything that you are trying for the first time you don’t know what you will find.

( IS THIS ) WAY OUT ?

Got lost in a maze,

had no idea where he was.

Trying different exits

only ever made him cross.

Thinking to himself

” Will I ever escape? “

Until things were beginning

to take shape.

Now he can’t believe

his own eyes

as life takes off

its disguise.

Solid rock

or another red herring.

Watertight evidence…

Get in !

( Is this ) way out?

The straight path,

the open road?

Like the right key

or a cracked code.

( Is this ) way out?

Is he finally free

or is not all

as it seems to be?

Doesn’t want to tempt fate

nor speak too fast,

learning from the mistakes

that he made in the past.

When believing he was standing on concrete

whilst skating on thin ice,

not the kind of action

that you would like to do twice!

( Is this ) way out?

The straight path,

the open road?

Like the right key

or a cracked code.

( Is this ) way out?

Is he finally free

or is not all

as it seems to be?

Positive feedback,

though he’s trusted words before.

He will walk timmed steps

until he knows for sure.

( Is this ) way out?

The straight path,

the open road?

Like the right key

or a cracked code.

( Is this ) way out?

Is he finally free

or is not all

as it seems to be?

(Is this) Way Out? Is written in third person. This is because at the time I was writing it I had been having a conversation with one of my friends about writing posts on Facebook. I didn’t always know how to write them for everyone to understand them. These days,  I don’t put in words like, I, me, mine, but I make sure that people know that I am talking about myself and not someone else.

I am to some degree saddened that my writings don’t get as much coverage as I would like. Some of them are like messages from God, similar to sermons in a way. So I want them to reach the people that God intended to hear them. But I do enjoy performing them on stage. I used to belong to a choir that did performances about once a month to places such as old people’s homes. I would often get a chance to recite one of my writings. A couple of times I have sung The Dad dance, and this allows me to get a bigger audience for my writings so that is good.
